Slow computer tune-ups: there's usually a fixable reason
Computers rarely slow down because they're simply old. It's more often a full drive, too many programs loading at startup, or a hard drive that should have been replaced by a faster one years ago.
Sound like yours?
- You turn it on, then go and make a cup of tea
- Programs freeze or show "not responding"
- Web pages crawl, even though the internet is fine elsewhere
- You get warnings about low disk space
- The fan never seems to stop
What a tune-up covers
-
A proper look under the bonnet
We check the drive, memory, startup programs and general health of the machine so we fix the cause and leave the guesswork out of it.
-
Clean-up
We clear out junk, trim what loads at startup, install overdue updates and check for malware.

An honest upgrade opinion
If swapping an old hard drive for a solid state drive or adding memory will make a real difference, we'll tell you what it costs. If it won't, we'll tell you that too.
Common questions
Will I lose my files during a tune-up?
No. A tune-up works around your files. If we recommend replacing a drive, we move your files across as part of the job.
Should I just buy a new computer?
Sometimes, but not always. An older machine with a new solid state drive can feel like a different computer. We'll give you our honest view once we have seen it.
